Clean Community Program

 Every year KDB partners with the County General Services Department to assist county neighborhoods (outside the City limits) to beautify their community by giving them an opportunity to remove large-item waste. 

 Some people, especially our elderly or disabled neighbors, have large items of trash that they can't dispose of on their own.  By getting the community together for the cleanup, neighbors can help other neighbors dispose of items that make the whole neighborhood less attractive.

Sound Interesting? Here is what you do:

  • Talk to your neighbors, will they take part?  (We need communities who are willing to make this event a success.)
  • Decide on a team captain and a group of at least 5 individuals who will help organize and publicize the event throughout the neighborhood.
  • Sign up!  On a first come, first serve basis, KDB and the County will work with you to help you have a Clean Community!

 

KDB provides posters or fliers for the neighborhoods to tell their neighbors about the event in advance and to give them a change to get organized.

Did you know that the City and County of Durham budgeted well over 5 million dollars last year to pick up illegally dumped items, streat and stream litter, remove graffiti and clean up after illegal set-outs around Durham?  People who are unwilling to take responsibility for disposing of their large-item garbage corectly,  just leave it on the side of the road. People who are unwilling to find a trash can just throw their litter in our parks, on our streets, and into our streams.  As tax payers, we pay for this extra cleanup every day!
