Community Litter Cleanup

Anyone can organize a Community Litter Cleanup!

If you think there is too much litter around your street or neighborhood and you and a bunch of friends or co-workers want to clean it up we are here to help!

When you request support, we will ask you three things:

  • How many people will be taking part
  • Where you are going to pick up litter
  • What day do you want to have the cleanup

 
One member of your group needs to come to our office to pick up the supplies and return them after the litter cleanup.  

If you can, we encourage people to take the litter bags home and put them in their own trash cans, but if you collect too much litter for that, just let us know and KDB will arrange to have it picked up as quickly as we can!

What a great way to take responsibility of your and make a difference that you will be able to see in your own neighborhood!

These are all ways of preventing crime!  Keep Durham Beautiful educates people about the "Broken WIndows Theory." The Broken Window Theory says that if you take care of your neighborhood and your yard, and you are friendly with your neighbors, then criminals will feel uncomfortable and move on. 

Think about it!

Criminals don't want anyone to notice them, but in a friendly, clean community they will stand out!  And it's more likely that people will call the police if someone looks suspicious!

Picking up litter is more than just an appearance issue, it makes you a Neighborhood Crime FIghter!
