Join the Woodcroft Community and Rewild NC on Sunday, March 1 from 2-4pm to tackle a large, mature thicket of Chinese privet that has grown up along Third Fork Creek near the Woodcroft Shopping Center. This infestation has taken over the wooded area along the creek and has choked out native canopy and understory trees and the wildlife that depends on them. Much of the privet is entangled with thorny smilax (greenbriar), adding to the removal challenge.
Third Fork Creek merges into New Hope Creek and eventually flows to Jordan Lake. It is critical that we stop this privet from spreading downstream.
Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots, pants and long sleeves, and bring a reusable water bottle. Tools and gloves will be provided but we encourage volunteers with their own labeled pruners and saws to bring them along.
Volunteers between the ages of 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult. This event is not recommended for volunteers under the age of 12.
