Tree giveaways

We distribute trees to residents, businesses, and community organizations every year! Trees come from both Keep Durham Beautiful and our partner Panther Creek Forest Farm in Durham.

Depending on where the tree will be planted, residents can receive different trees:

  1. Receive a tree from Keep Durham Beautiful: Our tree giveaways are fully grant-funded and apply to specific areas of Durham, so we ask residents to please check this map to see if their address is eligible (blue area). This helps us stay compliant and continue to receive funding! Folks can sign up to reserve 1 tree of a certain species.

  2. Receive a tree from Panther Creek Forest Farm: Community volunteers collect thousands of native tree and shrub seeds each year, which are planted at the Forest Farm. Once the seeds become saplings, they are used in local tree plantings and given away to the public! These trees are smaller: 1-2 years old and usually about 1 foot tall. Anyone can receive these trees.

Our tree canopy is made up of trees whose roots and branches grow across multiple ownerships, land use, and zoning categories.

Together, we can work to make sure we have an urban forest that spans all of Durham.
