locations & species
Trees will be planted where they can have the greatest impact, such as in areas with low canopy coverage, more polluted air, and degraded water quality. Areas with low tree canopy coverage are especially prone to heat island effects, which is when areas stay hotter because buildings and roads absorb heat. A healthy tree canopy can minimize the harmful effects of heat islands.

tree species
The street tree species are in for 2025! New trees are selected on the basis of tolerance of drought, heat, and adverse urban planting conditions, while prioritizing native species and ensuring variety in the overall forest. Download the one-page handout.
